Vols Wrap Up Opening Round at NCAA Championships

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Tennessee men's golf team completed its opening round of the NCAA Championships Friday and is tied for 19th place entering round two.
The Vols shot 12-over as a team during the tournament's first round.
Tennessee, along with the rest of the field, will play one more round each day for the next two days. Following Sunday's round, the field will be cut to 15 teams. The Vols are currently just four strokes outside of the top 15.
Bryce Lewis led the way for Tennessee on Friday, shooting even par for the day—his team-lead-tying 19th round of par or better this season. Lewis is tied for 28th entering round two, and due to the tightly-grouped leaderboard, just two strokes outside of the top five overall.
The Vols' second-best round came from Rhys Nevin, who was just one stroke behind Lewis at 1-over. Nevin now has 113 career counting rounds as a Vol, moving him into a tie for fourth in program history.
Brayden Garrison also contributed a counting round for the Vols, shooting 5-over for the day. Garrison enters Saturday tied for 105th place.
Tennessee's final counting score during round one came from Hunter Wolcott, who shot 6-over. Wolcott is tied for 119th place overall. One stroke behind Wolcott at 7-over, Spencer Cross is tied for 128th place.
The Vols are set to tee off round two at the NCAA Championships Saturday at 11 a.m. ET.
