Herrington and Simpson Named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced its 2025-26 Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars on Monday afternoon, with two Vols earning recognition.
Lance Simpson and Jackson Herrington are the two Tennessee golfers present on the list after a pair of strong campaigns in 2025-26.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Simpson, a fifth-year for the Vols in 2025-26, notched one of the best individual seasons in program history. With a unanimous Third Team All-America selection, he became just the seventh man in program history to earn multiple All-American honors.
The Knoxville, Tennessee, native closed his final campaign with a 70.11 season scoring average, the third-best mark in program history. Additionally, Simpson's 71.11 career scoring average ranks third in program history. His 26 rounds of par or better during the 2025-26 season is the second-highest tally in program history, while his 80 career rounds of par or better are also second in program history.
Simpson closed the season ranked No. 11 in the PGA TOUR University rankings, allowing him to secure membership on the PGA TOUR Americas through the end of the season. In four events as a professional, he has notched three top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish at the Commissionaires Ottawa Open.
Herrington had a memorable year of golf extending beyond team competition with Tennessee, as he competed at the 2026 Masters tournament and the 2026 U.S. Open. Notably, he finished with the joint-highest 36-hole score among the six amateurs in the field at the Masters, closing at 8-over-par.
For the Vols, Herrington was an integral part of the lineup. The Dickson, Tennessee, native tallied 16 rounds of par or better to accumulate a 71.35 scoring average. He had two top-10 individual finishes in his second season on Rocky Top, tying for fifth place to open the season at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate and tying for sixth place among a strong field at the Cabo Collegiate.
