Hayden, Champagnie Log Lady Vol Top-10 Marks Friday At Tiger Track Classic

AUBURN, Ala. — Two Lady Vols posted all-time top-10 program marks Friday evening as Tennessee opened its 2021 outdoor track & field campaign at Auburn's Hutsell-Rosen Track for the Tiger Track Classic.

Redshirt freshman Chandler Hayden broke the Lady Vol freshman record in the hammer throw, logging a mark of 57.02 meters (187-1) on her sixth-round attempt. The Pittsfield, Illinois, native now ranks as the No. 5 performer in Tennessee history as her throw topped her high school personal-best by nearly 27.5 feet.
Graduate student Ayesha Champagnie made her long-awaited Lady Vol debut in the javelin throw Friday night and entered the program's all-time top-10 on her first throw in a Tennessee uniform. The heptathlete from Kingston, Jamaica, had a toss of 47.23 meters (154-11) that placed her No. 7 on the UT performance list and was good for fourth place at the meet.
RILEY GETS A DUB: Making his first career appearance on an outdoor track for the Vols, redshirt freshman Riley Buchholz took first place in the invite 1,500-meter run Friday night with a time of 3:49.35. The result went down as his first career individual victory as a collegiate athlete, indoor or outdoor.

OUTDOOR DEBUTS: In addition to Hayden, Champagnie and Buchholz, five other members of the Tennessee track & field programs made their first official outdoor appearances for the Big Orange on Friday: Peyton Davis (men's javelin, 54.53m), Thomas Gardiner (men's 1,500m, 3:53.73), Kayla Racine (women's weight throw, foul), Ethan Robinson (men's javelin, 41.38m) and Yariel Soto (men's javelin, 48.02m).
