February 06, 2021 | Men's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 10 Tennessee men's tennis team puts its seven-match win streak on the line on Sunday afternoon when it welcomes the 16th-ranked NC State Wolfpack to Knoxville for a rematch of last months contest at ITA Kickoff Weekend. First serve from the Goodfriend Tennis Center is set for 1 p.m. ET.
Live stats will be provided by UTsports.com and can be found here.
All matches played inside the Goodfriend Tennis Center will be played without spectators and all matches played outdoors at Barksdale Stadium will be played only in front of family and friends of participating student-athletes and coaches.
LAST TIME OUT
On Friday afternoon the Vols ripped past Duke, 4-0 for their seventh consecutive win to begin the dual season.
UT battled through the doubles point and gathered three straight-set triumphs from graduate student Luca Wiedenmann, freshman Johannus Monday and senior Adam Walton to shut out the Blue Devils.
SCOUTING NC STATE
This will be the Vols and Wolfpack's second meeting this season after UT took down NC State 4-1 two weeks ago to advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships.
In that matchup, UT swept through the doubles point, before earning straight-set triumphs from freshman Johannus Monday, graduate student Giles Hussey and junior Martim Prata.
Prata clinched match point after battling past No. 95 Tadas Babelis, 7-5, 7-6(3), claiming his fifth straight singles victory of the dual season.
Tennessee leads the all-time series between the programs, 6-1, dating to 1981. This will be the second time in the last three seasons the Orange & White will face the Wolfpack multiple times in a season after having done so in 2019.
LUCA NEARS CENTURY MARK
A victory in singles on Sunday would be Wiedenmann's 100th career singles win, placing him 10th all-time on the programs career singles wins list and making him the 10th-ever Vol to reach 100 career singles triumphs.
UP NEXT
Tennessee returns to action next weekend when it travels to Champaign, Illinois for the ITA Indoor National Championships. The draw is set for Monday afternoon, where the Vols will learn of their quarterfinal opponent and their path to a potential first trophy of the 2021 season.
