KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After sweeping past Notre Dame, the 10th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team will put its six-match win streak on the line when it welcomes Duke to Knoxville on Friday afternoon. First serve from the Goodfriend Tennis Center is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
Live stats for Friday's match will be provided by UTsports.com and can be found here.
All matches played inside the Goodfriend Tennis Center will be played without fans. All outdoor matches played at Barksdale Stadium will be played in front of family and friends of participating student athletes and coaches only.
LAST TIME OUT
Last Friday, the Vols rolled past Notre Dame, 7-0, improving to 6-0 on the dual season and earning their third shutout of the year.
After battling through the doubles point, UT earned five straight-set triumphs in singles play from graduate students Luca Wiedenmann and Giles Hussey, senior Adam Walton and juniors Pat Harper and Martim Prata. Freshman Johannus Monday finished off the Friday sweep with a three-set come-from-behind victory over No. 6 Richard Ciamarra.
SCOUTING DUKE
Friday's matchup will be the 28th between the Vols and Blue Devils in a series dating to 1975. UT owns a 16-11 edge when the teams meet and has won the last three meetings.
Friday's contest will also mark the 11th consecutive dual season the sides have met at least once, dating to 2011.
The last time UT faced Duke, the Vols took the Blue Devils, 6-1, in Durham. After dropping the doubles point, Tennessee ripped off six three-set victories in singles play, with Knoxville's Mr. Clincher (Luca Wiedenmann) clinching match point on court three, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5, over Luca Keist.
In doubles play, Duke boasts two ranked tandems. Keist and Michael Heller are 46th in the ITA rankings, while Sean Sculley and Garrett Johns are ranked 55th.
LUCA REALLY IS MR. CLINCHER
Since arriving in Knoxville as a freshman in 2016-17, Tennessee has won 76 dual matches with Wiedenmann as a member of the Vols. Of those 76 wins, the Munich, Germany native has clinched match point 18 times, for an impressive percentage of .236.
That means that for nearly every fourth win UT claims, Wiedenmann will clinch match point for the Orange & White.
Entering this weekend's matches, Wiedenmann is just two wins away from reaching 100 career singles triumphs.
MONDAY GOES BACK-TO-BACK
Freshman Johannnus Monday was named the SEC's Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week after knocking off Notre Dame's Richard Ciamarra, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) to finish off the Vols' sweep of the Fighting Irish.
Monday is currently 5-1 in both singles and doubles during dual play, playing primarily at either the No. 1 or No. 2 positions in both competitions.
UP NEXT
The Vols will have a quick turnaround as they will remain at home to take on NC State in a rematch of the Championship match from ITA Kickoff Weekend on Sunday afternoon. First serve from the Goodfriend Tennis Center is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
