February 28, 2021 | Men's Golf
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Tennessee men's golf team concluded its second tournament of the spring Sunday, completing the third and final round of the LSU Invitational and notching a seventh-place finish for the weekend.
Â
Playing through tough weather conditions on an already difficult course, the Vols shot a three-round total of 28-over 892.
Â
"We didn't have our best on a tough golf course in some very difficult conditions this week, but I was very proud of the way our team fought to the end each round," head coach Brennan Webb said. "This fight made a huge difference in our finish and will prove to be a valuable skill as we advance towards postseason."
Â
For the third time during the 2020-21 season, Hunter Wolcott was Tennessee's highest finisher, tying for 13th place. Wolcott shot 4-over 220 for the weekend and recorded his 12th career top-15 finish. The bounce-back performance comes on the heels of a 99th-place finish at the Gators Invitational earlier this month, which was the lowest of Wolcott's Tennessee career.
Â
Rhys Nevin also finished inside the top-15, totaling a 5-over 221 and tying for 15th place. It marks Nevin's 23rd career top-25 finish, which leads the team.
Â
Jake Hall had the third-best score of the weekend by a Vol while competing as an individual, shooting 9-over 225 and tying for 38th place in his second tournament action of the 2020-21 season.
Â
Tying for 49th place, Bryce Lewis was the third-highest finisher in Tennessee's lineup, shooting 11-over 227 for the weekend. All three of Lewis' rounds counted in the Vols' lineup over the course of the tournament, bringing his season-long total to 13 counting rounds (86.7 percent).
Â
Spencer Cross gave Tennessee its' fourth counting round on Sunday and contributed two counting rounds for the weekend. Cross tied for 65th place and shot 15-over 231. In his first action as a member of the Vols' lineup during the 2020-21 season, Tyler Johnson tied for 74th, shooting 18-over 234.
