Vols in Sixth Entering Final Round at LSU Invitational
February 27, 2021 | Men's Golf
BATON ROUGE, La. – The Tennessee men's golf team wrapped up its second round of play at the LSU Invitational Saturday and sits in sixth place entering the third and final round of competition.
The Vols shot 10-over 298 for the day on Saturday, bringing their two-round total to 16-over. Entering Sunday, Tennessee has two golfers in its lineup inside the top 25 entering Sunday as well as Jake Hall, who is competing as an individual.
"Not a great round today, but I'm very proud that our guys hung in there and played the last three holes at 4-under par to give us a chance tomorrow with a great round," head coach Brennan Webb said.
Among the five members of Tennessee's lineup, Hunter Wolcott recorded the best round on Saturday, shooting even par. It marks Wolcott's seventh round of par or better this season, and propelled him into a tie for 12th overall. Due to the lack of separation between golfers near the top of the leaderboard, Wolcott enters the third round just two strokes outside of the top five.
Rhys Nevin is set to enter Sunday inside the top five, as he is tied for fifth place after a 2-over outing on Saturday. Nevin, who on Saturday shot an eagle for the second consecutive round, is even par overall through two rounds. The Cheshire, England, native is seeking his sixth-career top-five finish.
Competing as an individual, Hall shot 2-under on Saturday—the best round of any Vol. Hall entered Saturday tied for 51st place, but is set to enter the third round tied for 22nd as he aims for his second top-25 finish of the 2020-21 season.
Tyler Johnson and Bryce Lewis contributed Tennessee's final two counting rounds on Saturday, shooting 4-over and 5-over during the second round, respectively. Overall, Lewis is 8-over and tied for 53rd, while Johnson is 11-over and tied for 67th.
After giving Tennessee its second-best score during Friday's first round, Spencer Cross shot a 11-over 83 on Saturday. Cross enters Sunday 13-over and in 77th place.
