No. 3 Vols Knock off Charlotte, 5-2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A doubles sweep and three dominant straight-set victories in singles pushed the third-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team past Charlotte, 5-2, on Wednesday at Barksdale Stadium.
The victory improved Tennessee (11-1) to 6-0 all-time against the 49ers (5-3).
The Vols rolled through the doubles point, gathering their second doubles sweep of the season.
The senior tandem of Andrew Rogers and Adam Walton got UT off to a quick start, with an easy 6-2 dispatching of Henry Lieberman and Leo Menezes on court three.
At No. 2, graduate student Giles Hussey and senior Mark Wallner held off a late surge from Charlotte's team of Ben Wayand and Cole Brainard to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 victory.
Freshman Johannus Monday and junior Martim Prata finished off the doubles sweep, winning four of the final five games of their match to knock off Olle Wallin and Ignasi de Rueda, 6-4.
In singles play, graduate student Luca Wiedenmann quickly doubled the Vols lead with a dominant, 6-0, 6-1 victory over Stefanos Savva on court five.
The victory is Wiedenmann's 19th in a row, improving him to 19-1 overall and 9-0 in dual play.
Minutes later, Walton followed Wiedenmann and put UT on the brink of match point as he breezed past Wallin, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1.
Rogers clinched match point at 4-0 with his second consecutive dual victory, knocking off Leo Menezes, 6-2, 6-2.
Charlotte nipped UT in third-set-super-tiebreaks on courts two and three, before Hussey closed out the afternoon with a 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(9) victory over Wayand on court four.
