KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After taking down two top-5 opponents over the weekend, the 10th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team returns to action for a Wednesday afternoon home bout with Charlotte. First serve from Barksdale stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. ET.
Live stats will be provided by UTsports.com and can be found here. Live streaming will be provided through Playsight and can be found here.
This week's men's and women's matches played outside at Barksdale stadium will be played without spectators. Beginning next week, all outdoor home matches will be played in front of a crowd only of friends and family members of participating student-athletes and coaches.
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend the Vols fell to No. 2 North Carolina, 4-1, in the quarterfinal round of the ITA Indoor Championships.
The Vols responded on Saturday and Sunday with victories over No. 3 TCU and No. 5 Texas in the event's backdraw.
On Saturday, UT claimed a hard-fought 4-3 win, in which the Horned Frogs erased a 3-1 Tennessee advantage, before graduate student Giles Hussey activated his clutch gene and clinched match point, with a 7-6(0), 6-3 win on court four.
On Sunday, the Orange & White's Mr. Clincher, Luca Wiedenmann clinched his 19th career match point and earned his 101st career singles victory as he battled past Chih Chi Huang, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 to earn a 4-2 win for the Vols.
SCOUTING CHARLOTTE
This will be the sixth all-time meeting between the Vols and the 49ers in a series dating to 2017. Tennessee has earned wins in all five of the programs previous matchups.
To begin the Spring season, Tennessee and Charlotte student-athletes met against one another in a set of doubles and singles matches at the Tar Heel Challenge, hosted by North Carolina, winning all but one of the 12 total matches played.
LUCA ECLIPSES THE CENTURY MARK
Luca Wiedenmann's straight-set triumph in Saturday's win over TCU was the 100th victory of his career, making him the 10th-ever Vol to reach 100 career singles victories. Wiedenmann is now just five wins away from tying VFL Mikelis Libietis for ninth all-time with 106 career singles victories.
DOUBLES IS THE KEY
Tennessee is currently riding a 28-match win streak when winning the doubles point. It's a streak that dates to March 31, 2019 in a victory over Alabama.
UP NEXT
Following Wednesday's match, the Vols will travel south to Athens, Georgia to open up SEC play against No. 12 Georgia. First serve from the Magill Tennis Complex is slated for 2:30 p.m. ET.
