Men's Tennis Central: #13 Tennessee vs. Oklahoma & Tennessee Tech

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 13th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team opens up its 2021 dual slate with a Saturday home doubleheader against Oklahoma and Tennessee Tech. First serve for the Oklahoma match is set for 10 a.m. ET, while the Tennessee Tech match is slated to start at 2:30 p.m. ET, both from inside the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
All home matches played inside the Goodfriend Tennis Center will be played without fans, per SEC COVID-19 protocols.

SCOUTING OKLAHOMA
This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the Vols and the Sooners in a series dating to 1975. Tennessee holds a 2-1 series edge, while taking the last two contests between the programs. Saturday's matchup will be the second time the series has been contested in Knoxville.
The last time the programs met, Tennessee won a tightly contested 4-3 affair. After winning the doubles point, the Orange & White earned victories from senior Adam Walton and graduate student Giles Hussey to knot the match at 3-3.
With the match on the line, graduate student Luca Wiedenmann took down then-116th-ranked Jochen Bertsch, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, to secure the victory.
SCOUTING TENNESSEE TECH
The Vols are a perfect 17-0 against the Golden Eagles in a series dating to 1935, with seven of those victories being shutouts. The last time the programs met, the Vols dismantled the Golden Eagles 6-1, dropping just two sets as a team and winning five-of-six singles matches in straight set fashion.
RANKED VOLS
Walton and junior Pat Harper were ranked No. 24 and 124 respectively in the ITA's preseason rankings that were released on Tuesday morning. This is Harper's first appearance in the ITA's singles rankings, while Walton was ranked for the duration of the shortened 2019-20 campaign, coming in as high as 13th in the nation.
STREAKING VOLS
Through four individual tournaments, Tennessee has compiled an overall singles record of 74-18 (.804) and a doubles ledger of 33-13 (.717).
The Vols have been led by Hussey who currently sits at 11-1 in singles action and Wiedenmann who holds a mark of 10-1 with victories in 10 consecutive matches. Wiedenmann is also just seven singles wins away from becoming the 10th ever Vol to reach 100 career singles triumphs.
Freshman Johannus Monday and the senior duo of Andrew Rogers and Mark Wallner are each riding seven match win streaks as Monday sits at 9-2 and Rogers and Wallner are both 7-0 heading into dual match play.

Tennessee will make a quick turnaround when it travels south to take on 12th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Tuesday afternoon. First serve from Winston-Salem is set for Noon ET.
