KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 12/17 Tennessee men's tennis team hits the road in non-conference play as it travels to Durham, N.C. for a showdown with the No. 21/RV Duke Blue Devils Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
The match will be played at Duke's Sheffield Tennis Center with a live stream and live results available by visiting the men's tennis schedule at utsports.com.
The Vols (9-1) are riding a three-match win streak which includes shutout wins over Georgia State and Mercer this past weekend. UT's third win in the streak came in a 4-3 victory over Wichita State on Sunday.
RANKED VOLS
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its first batch of spring singles and doubles rankings Wednesday, with Adam Walton and Finn Stodder landing in the top 125 in singles. Walton moved up 10 spots from his November listing of No. 23 to No. 13 in the nation on Wednesday, following his 9-0 start to the season.
Walton's ranking of No. 13 nationally is the highest of his career.
Finn Stodder has only played one singles match this spring but combined with his play in the fall, finds himself at No. 117 nationally.
WALTON STREAKING
With his straight-set victory over Wichita State's Murkel Dellien on Sunday, Walton earned his ninth consecutive win to start the season. The nine-straight wins ties the Home Hill, Australia native's career-best win streak which he set a year ago, when he won nine in-a-row from Jan. 19 through March 7.
Walton has defeated three ranked opponents during the streak, including then 6th-ranked Jack Lin from Columbia. Eight of his nine wins have come in straight sets.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
Duke enters Friday's matchup undefeated at 7-0 and ranked No. 21 in the Tennis Channel/USTA top 25 while receiving votes in the Oracle/ITA rankings. Four Blue Devils were featured in the ITA singles and doubles rankings released on Wednesday.
Nick Stachowiak and Sean Sculley are listed as the nation's No. 6 doubles team after posting a 3-0 mark at the No. 1 doubles position for Duke. Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang climbed 20 spots to No. 22 in the nation in doubles in the updated ITA poll.
Zhang is the Blue Devils' lone representative in the singles ranks, checking in at No. 113.
Tennessee and Duke have met each season since 2011 and Friday's meeting will be the 27th all-time in the series. UT holds a 15-11 advantage and has won the last two meetings.
UP NEXT
The Vols will have a week of training following the matchup with Duke and will return to action at home on Feb. 21 against Georgia Tech at 6 p.m.
