TRACK CENTRAL: SEC Indoor Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Tennessee track & field program begins indoor postseason action this weekend, as 49 athletes have traveled to College Station, Texas, for the 2020 SEC Indoor Championships. The conference meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 28-29 at Texas A&M's Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

UT will open the meet with five athletes competing in the combined events Friday morning, starting at 11:45 a.m. CT with the men's heptathlon 60-meter dash. Friday's evening session will feature preliminary rounds on the track, as well as event finals in the 5,000-meter, distance medley relay, shot put, long jump and men's pole vault.

Saturday's action will begin with the men's heptathlon 60m hurdles at 10 a.m. local time. Track event finals will start at 4 p.m., concluding with the women's 4x400-meter relay at 6:55. Field events set for Saturday include the high jump, weight throw, triple jump and women's pole vault.

BROADCAST INFO: A live stream of the meet will be available both days online via SEC Network+, beginning at 6:10 p.m. ET Friday and 4:55 p.m. ET Saturday. Dwight Stones, Dan O'Brien and Jill Montgomery are set to describe the action from the booth, while Larra Overton will report live from the track. Additionally, a tape-delayed broadcast of the Championship will air on the SEC Network Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.

TOP MARKS: 17 Tennessee athletes have combined for 19 top-8 marks in the SEC this season heading into the conference meet.

RANKINGS UPDATE: On the men's side, Tennessee achieved a season-high national ranking of No. 8 in the latest installment of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track & Field Rating Index earlier this week. It marked the highest spot for UT on the indoor TFRI since being ranked No. 6 at the conclusion of the 2016 campaign.

Tennessee's women came in at No. 28 in the most recent TFRI, up 37 spots from their preseason ranking of No. 65.

FLASHBACK TO 2019: Tennessee had five medalists at last year's SEC Indoor Championships, highlighted by conference titles for Mustaqeem Williams (men's 200m) and Stamatia Scarvelis (women's weight throw). Maia McCoy earned bronze in both the women's 60-meter and 200-meter dashes, while Zach Long and Joseph Maxwell also earned third-place finishes in the 3,000m and shot put, respectively.

The Tennessee men finished sixth in the team standings with 50 points, good for the program's highest finish and point total since 2009. On the women's side, UT placed eighth to improve three spots higher than 2018.

UP NEXT: Tennessee athletes that post top-16 NCAA qualifying marks will earn a spot at the 2020 NCAA Indoor National Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The nation's top athletes will converge on the Albuquerque Convention Center Friday and Saturday, March 13-14.
