Hadley Walts Has Career Day as Lady Vols Finish Fifth at Westbrook Invitational
February 24, 2020 | Women's Golf
PEORIA, Ariz. — The Tennessee women's golf team finished in the top five to close out the Westbrook Invitational. Altogether, the Lady Vols shot a season-best of 851 (-13) after shooting a 279 (-9) in the third round today.
"This was a pretty good week," head coach Judi Pavon said. "Yesterday could have been better, but we bounced back today with the low round of the day which was a good way to finish."
Sophomore Hadley Walts made some noise as she recorded another career-best round of 66 (-5) in the final round. She carded her best 54-hole performance of 207 (-9), tying her for sixth overall, marking her first top-10 finish in her career. Overall, she tallied seven birdies in the final round alone.
"I'm so thrilled for Hadley and that she had such a great tournament," Pavon said. "Today was great and she played with so much confidence."
The next best performance came from freshman Nicole Whiston, who shot a 70 in the final round to combine for 214 (-2) to tie for 24th. She recorded a pair of birdies as it marked the 13th time this season she has shot for par or better.
Right behind her was junior Waverly Whiston, carding an even par 72 in the third round to total for 215 (-1) and tie for 26th. She tallied three birdies in the final round and has now shot an even par or better six times.
Senior Micheala Williams had the next best performance for the Lady Vols, tying for 32nd and recording an even par 72 in the third round. The senior finished with 216 (E) and has now been at par or better a total of eight this season.
Rounding out the lineup for Tennessee was sophomore Mikayla Bardwell, tying for 56th after shooting 71 (-1) strokes in the third. She totaled three birdies in the final and carded a 221 (+5) overall.
Individually, sophomore Malia Stovall tied for 15th by shooting 71 (-1) strokes in the third round to total for 211 (-5). She finished the tournament with four more birdies and was the top finisher among the individual participants.

The Lady Vols take a week off before traveling to Gainesville, Fla., for the Florida Gators Invitational on March 7-8.
"We need to become more confident in our ability so we can get off to a strong start in the next tourney," Pavon said.
Last year, the Big Orange finished fourth out of 13 teams and senior Micheala Williams took first overall after shooting 4-under par.
The Mark Bostick Golf Course has been around since 1962 and is located just outside of Florida's campus. The course was designed by Donald Ross during the 1920s, but was renovated in 2001 after a $4 million project by Jacksonville-based Bobby Weed.
