Women’s Golf Central: Westbrook Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After opening up the spring season last weekend, the Tennessee's women's golf team travels to Peoria, Ariz., to compete in the Westbrook Invitational this Sunday and Monday.
Hosted by the University of Wisconsin, teams will compete in threesomes and play 36 holes the first day and 18 the next. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round. Including Tennessee, there are 16 teams competing featuring two other SEC teams.
This marks the second year in a row that the Lady Vols have competed in the tournament. Last year, the team finished eighth out of 16 teams after shooting 862 (-2). Ariana Macioce had the best performance for Tennessee, tying for 16th with 214 (-2).
Last Time Out
Last weekend, Tennessee saw action at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico, and finished 14th overall with a team score of 899 (+35). Tennessee was one of the 12 top-50 teams in the field along with one of five SEC teams competing in the tournament.
Lady Vols' Lineup
Mikayla Bardwell
Bardwell had the best performance for the Lady Vols at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational, tying for 23rd overall after carding a 219 (+3). This marked the fourth time this season that she has placed in the top-25. In the second day, Bardwell jumped up eight spots and recorded 71 strokes.
Overall this season, the sophomore is averaging 73.17 strokes while competing in all 18 rounds. Her best round was at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship with 67 strokes, helping her tie for 16th overall by recording her best 54-hole score of 215.
Micheala Williams
Williams was the next UT player in Mexico, tying for 44th overall. Williams totaled a 225 (+9) and had her best round in the second, recording 74 strokes.
Competing in all 18 rounds this season, Williams is averaging 71.94 strokes a round. Her lowest score was at the Magnolia Invitational, carding a 68. At the same tournament, the senior carded her best 54-hole score with 215 and tied for 16th.
Hadley Walts
The sophomore tied for 57th at the opening spring tournament, shooting a 230 (+14). Her best round was on the first day, when she shot an even par 72.
She has competed in 15 rounds this year and has averaged 75.13 strokes a round. Her lowest score was at the Cougar Classic, Illini Women's Invitational and IJGA, carding a 72. Walts also had her best 54-hole score of 222 at the Cougar Classic and the White Sands Invitational.
Nicole Whiston
Whiston tied for 62nd after shooting a 231 (+15) in Mexico. The freshman had her best performance during the third round, recording 77 strokes.
Playing in all six tournaments this season, Whiston is averaging 71.94 strokes per round. Her lowest round of 68 strokes was during the Illini Women's Invitational and the White Sands Invitational. The freshman also recorded a team-best of 11 rounds of par or better during the five tournaments.
Waverly Whiston
This marks the first spring tournament for the junior as she recorded an average of 73.83 strokes a round during the fall. Her best performance was at the Magnolia Invitational, when she tied for 21st overall by carding a 222. The lowest round for Whiston was at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship by hitting a 68.
Malia Stovall (Individual)
The sophomore also tied for 62nd with 231 (+15) strokes at the IJGA Collegiate Invitational. In the opening two rounds, she recorded 75 strokes, marking her best performance at the tournament.
With competing in four tournaments, Stovall is averaging 74.92 strokes a round. Her best performance this season was at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship, with her lowest round at 71 and tying for 25th overall.
