Lady Vols Sweep Auburn on the Road

AUBURN, Ala. – The Tennessee Lady Vol volleyball team earned its first sweep of the season Wednesday night, defeating Auburn (25-20, 25-17, 25-19) in straight sets on the road at Auburn Arena.
Tennessee (3-4, 3-4 SEC) has now swept Auburn in two of its last three meetings and has broken out the brooms the last two times the teams have met down on The Plains. Auburn (0-7, 0-7 SEC) has been swept in six of its seven matches this fall.
The Lady Vols hit a season-high .308 in the victory and had four players hit .250 or better, including Raquel Perinar and Ava Bell who hit .467 and .429, respectively. UT was aggressive from the service line, notching a season-high seven aces and kept the Tigers off balance and out of system throughout the evening.
Leading Tennessee's aggressive serving was senior Madison Coulter and freshman JaKya Moore. Coulter and Moore each scored three aces on the night, which mark career-highs for both players.
Junior Lily Felts continued her impressive run of form, netting 18 kills, hitting .333 and coming up with 10 digs. It's the fifth consecutive match Felts has notched double-digit kills and the fourth-straight match she has earned a double-double.
Fellow juniors Bell and Danielle Mahaffey each tallied eight kills Wednesday, while Perinar posted seven kills and a team-high three blocks.
SET 1
The first set was the tightest of the night as the Tigers closed to within one point late in the opener.
With Tennessee up 20-19, Auburn miss hit a serve to go down 21-19 and sent Coulter back to the service line for the Lady Vols. The Maryville, Tennessee, native helped UT sting together three-straight points and get to set point.
The Tigers scored once more, but Felts sealed the set with her fifth kill of the night one point later, giving Tennessee the 25-20 first set victory.
SET 2
The Lady Vols hit an impressive .400 as a team in the second set and tallied 18 total kills as they blitzed the Tigers en route to a 25-17 set win.
Felts led the charge offensively with seven kills on a .385 hitting percentage, while through the middle, Perinar picked up five kills and hit .625.
Setter Natalie Hayward caught the Tigers napping on two occasions as she quickly dumped the ball over the net, scoring a pair of kills.
SET 3
Keen to closeout the sweep, UT kept the pressure up on Auburn, hitting .333 collectively. From the service line, Tennessee notched six of its seven aces in the third set. Moore scored all three of her aces in the finale, while Coulter earned two of her three aces in set number three.
Felts picked up one ace in the set to go along with six kills.
Bell and Mahaffey each tallied three kills and hit .750 in the final set as Tennessee won 25-19 and took the match 3-0.
