Lady Vols Cruise to Second-Straight Sweep of Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. – The Lady Vol volleyball team closed their fall season Thursday night by breaking out the brooms and sweeping Auburn in straight-sets (25-20, 25-12, 25-14) for the second consecutive night at Auburn Arena.
Tennessee (4-4, 4-4 SEC) has now swept Auburn (0-8, 0-8 SEC) on the road the last three times the Lady Vols have traveled to The Plains.
UT played solid offensively, hitting .284, while scoring 39 kills. Junior setter Natalie Hayward paced the offense with 29 assists, scored three kills of her own, tallied a pair of service aces and came away with one block.
Junior outside hitter Lily Felts notched 13 kills Thursday to run her streak of consecutive matches with double-digit kills to six-straight. The Knoxville native added four digs and a block to her night's work.
Fellow junior Danielle Mahaffey finished second on the night in kills, scoring 10 for the Lady Vols. The Cincinnati native hit a season-high .450 against Auburn.
Tennessee continued to receive solid production from junior middle blocker Ave Bell as the Austin, Texas, native hit .375, tallied eight kills and added a team-high four blocks.

Much like Wednesday night, the first set was the tightest set during the match with the Tigers out-hitting UT .233 to .211. The Lady Vols managed to pick up 14 kills to Auburn's 10, while eight service errors doomed the Tigers to a 25-20 first set loss.
Throughout the opener, the score was tied eight times and the lead changed hands three times.
Mahaffey earned six of her 10 kills in the opening set and hit an impressive .556.
SET 2
Tennessee ran away with the second set, winning 25-12 on the strength of 10 kills and a .290 hitting percentage.
The Lady Vols turned up the pressure from the service line and kept Auburn off balance offensively as the Tigers committed 10 attack errors. AU hit .000 in the second stanza.
SET 3
Looking to close out its second sweep in as many days, Tennessee cranked up the offense in the final set. The Lady Vols hit a match-high .364 in the closing set and generated 15 kills to go along with four service aces.
Felts scored four kills and hit .375, with Mahaffey and freshman Jasmine Brooks each totaling three kills. Brooks hit .600 in set number three, while Mahaffey posted a .375 hitting percentage.
Hayward notched two kills and two service aces for UT in the final set, with Felts and senior Madison Coulter each scoring one ace en route to Tennessee's 25-14 third set win.
