UT Rolls Through Day Two of Bulldog Challenge

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Dominant singles play and two hard fought doubles wins, led the Tennessee Men's tennis team to 10 of 12 total match victories at day two of the Bulldog Challenge on Saturday in Starkville.
In doubles play, the UT duos of senior Adam Walton and Junior Pat Harper and seniors Andrew Rogers and Mark Wallner each grabbed easy 8-3 wins for the collective pairs second doubles wins of the weekend.
In singles, the Vols dominated from wire-to-wire winning all eight of their singles contests, with six of them coming in straight set fashion.
Graduate student Giles Hussey and Harper continued their hot starts to the Fall season, with each extending their singles win streaks to five matches.
Hussey still has yet to drop a set this Fall as he rolled past Alabama's Vincent Rettke, 6-4, 6-2.
Harper battled a bit this afternoon, eventually winning a back-and-forth affair with the Crimson Tide's Riccardo Roberto, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.
After dropping a hard-fought match yesterday evening, junior Martim Prata dominated Ole Miss's Cotter Wilson, 6-3, 6-1.
Graduate Student Luca Wiedenmann extended his own win streak, as he breezed by Alabama's Jeremy Gschwendtner, 6-1, 6-2. The victory marked the 87th singles victory of his career, which moved him into a tie for 17th all-time in program history for singles wins with Simon Rea.
The trio of Rogers, Wallner and freshman Johannus Monday all earned their second victories of the weekend in straight sets, with Rogers rolling past Garza Sepulveda, 6-1, 6-3, Wallner taking down Alexey Nesterov, 6-3, 6-2 and Monday defeated Jan Soeren Hain, 6-4, 6-2.
Walton closed the day for the Orange & White with a three-set victory over Alabama's Zhe Zhou that was cut short due to retirement, 6-2, 5-7, 3-0 ret.
The Vols conclude their time in Starkville tomorrow morning when they participate in the morning session of play with LSU. Doubles action is set to begin at 10 a.m. ET.
