Four Vols Open Fall Season in Illinois
September 08, 2019 | Men's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee men's tennis program opens the 2019-20 campaign at the ITF M15 Champaign Futures tournament in Champaign, Ill. Pat Harper, Giles Hussey, Martim Prata and Adam Walton will compete in the futures tournament.
The event features a qualifying draw which is followed by the main singles and doubles draw. All four Vols will start in the qualifying draw.
Harper (Brisbane, Australia) will open against Kento Yamada from Japan. Harper had a successful fall last season, going 7-4 overall, which began with a three-match win streak. The sophomore righty will look to repeat that performance as three wins would qualify him for the main draw.
Hussey (Swindon, England) will begin his first season with the Vols this week after transferring from Georgia State. The graduate transfer will start off against American Trice Pickens who plays collegiately at Northwestern.
Tennessee sophomore Prata (Lisbon, Portugal) starts his first fall campaign as a Vol after arriving in Knoxville in January. The right hander will face either Joseph Rotheram or Chandreshwara Morales. Prata enters the qualifying draw as the fourth seed.
Home Hill, Australia native and Tennessee junior Walton squares off against Illinois redshirt sophomore Lucas Horve to begin his fall season. Walton is coming off back-to-back 25 win seasons for UT and was named the ITA Ohio Valley Player to Watch at the end of the 2019 spring season.
