#14 Tennessee Opens Up NCAA Tournament With a, 4-0, Win Over Radford

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – In its first match of the NCAA Tennis Tournament, the 14th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers defeated Radford, 4-0, on Friday afternoon at Barksdale Stadium.
The Vols (21-7) now advance to the round of 32 and will face NC State at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at Barksdale Stadium with a berth in the round of 16 on the line.
"We had good energy today and played well against a good Radford team," head coach Chris Woodruff said. "In the NCAA Tournament, you always have to be ready to go because your season could end tomorrow. We have to get refocused immediately and be ready to go again on Saturday against NC State."
Tennessee started off hot by taking the doubles point with wins from No. 6 Preston Touliatos/Timo Stodder on court No. 1 along with Adam Walton/Andrew Rogers on court No. 3.
Rogers/Walton finished first in doubles as they defeated Matko Varga/Andres Silva, 6-3. Touliatos/Stodder sealed the doubles point with a victory over Yevhen Sirous/Rodrigo Magalhaes, 6-3.
Touliatos carried over his strong performance in doubles to singles as he cruised to a, 6-1, 6-2, win at number five. The match win increased UT's lead to 2-0.
Walton, ranked No. 51 nationally, won his match on court two, 6-2, 6-1, giving UT a comfortable, 3-0, lead in the match. The victory is Walton's 18th dual match win of the year, setting a new career high.
Stodder entered as the nation's 23rd-ranked player and showed why as he won on center court, 6-1, 6-2, clinching the match victory for the Big Orange. The win was Stodder's 15th dual match victory of the season and gives him 94 career singles wins which is 12th most all-time in Tennessee history.
Tennessee now sits at 45-27 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and it is 20-1 in the tournament when playing in Knoxville. This marks the second-straight year that UT has advanced to the second round.
