MEN’S TENNIS CENTRAL: NCAA Super Regionals vs. Florida

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – With a spot in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament and a trip to Orlando on the line, No. 14 Tennessee is set to take on No. 4 Florida in Gainesville on Saturday, May 11 at noon ET.
Tennessee (22-7) is in the round of 16 for the first time since 2014 and the 19th time in program history. All-time, UT is 46-27 in the NCAA Tournament and is 9-9 in the round of 16.
This will be the third meeting between the Vols and Gators in the NCAA Tournament and the second meeting in the round of 16. Florida won the previous two meetings, 5-2, and, 5-0. The first matchup came in 1991 in the round of 16 with the second in 1997 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
Along with being the third postseason meeting between Tennessee and Florida, it will be the third time the rivals have faced off this year. The Gators took the first matchup in Knoxville, 5-2, while the Vols stunned Florida on its home court in the SEC Tournament two weeks ago.
Down, 3-1, UT rallied and knocked off the top-seeded Gators, 4-3, in the SEC semifinal. It was Tennessee's first win in Gainesville since 2010 and Florida's first home loss in over a year.
The Vols advanced in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Radford last Friday in the round of 64, 4-0, and then took down NC State in the second round, 4-2, on Saturday. Florida advanced by beating both Florida Gulf Coast and Florida State, 4-0.
Timo Stodder, Adam Walton and Preston Touliatos played key roles for UT in its wins over Radford and NC State. Stodder, ranked No. 23 nationally in singles, won both of his singles matches, including a clutch win over No. 21 Alexis Galarneau in three sets to give the Vols a, 3-2, edge over the Wolfpack.
Stodder and Touliatos form the nation's 6th-ranked doubles pairing and won each of their doubles matches last weekend as UT won the doubles point in both matches. Touliatos continued his strong play in singles, winning both matches.
Walton is the 51st-ranked singles player in the nation and picked up wins in both singles matches. The win over Igor Saveljic from NC State being the clincher that sent Tennessee on to the round of 16. He played well in doubles also, partnering with Andrew Rogers and going, 2-0, on the weekend.
