MEN’S TENNIS CENTRAL: #8 Mississippi State/#33 Ole Miss

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee men's tennis team heads to Mississippi to battle the No. 8 Mississippi State Bulldogs and the 33rd-ranked Ole Miss Rebels on Friday, March 22 and Sunday, March 24.
The 19th-ranked Volunteers have played three consecutive matches against ranked opponents going into the weekend. Mississippi State and Ole Miss will mark their fourth and fifth-straight versus ranked teams.
Friday's match is set for a 4 p.m. ET first serve while the match on Sunday will get underway at 2 p.m. ET.
Tennessee is coming off a loss to No. 4 Florida, 5-2, on Sunday in its last time out. The Vols did pick up the doubles point, their second doubles point win in a row, while No. 87 Adam Walton won on court two.
WALTON BACK ON HIS GROVE: After having his nine match win streak snapped, Walton has bounced back with two wins over ranked opponents and could have had three but the match went unfinished. Walton is now 16-4 overall this season with an 11-2 record in dual matches. His conference record stands at 3-1.
RANKINGS: The latest ITA rankings were announced on Tuesday with the Vols moving up three spots to No. 19. It is the seventh week this season UT has been in the top 25.
On the singles side, Timo Stodder came in ranked 66th overall while Walton moved up from No. 93 to No. 87 with his victories over then No. 88 Daniel Rodrigues from South Carolina and then No. 59 Andres Andrade of Florida.
In doubles, Stodder and Preston Touliatos moved up five spots to No. 31 after the senior duo captured two-straight doubles match wins against South Carolina and Florida.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Mississippi State enters Friday's match as winners of its last three. Most recently, the Bulldogs knocked off Auburn on the road, 4-0. For the season, Mississippi State is 13-3 with a 5-1 mark in league play.
The Bulldogs have two doubles teams ranked in the ITA's top 80. Niclas Braun/Giovanni Oradini are fourth in the country while Nuno Borges/Strahinja Rakic rank eighth nationally. In singles, Borges is No. 2 nationally and Oradini is No. 94.
SCOUTING THE REBELS: Ole Miss is 10-8 overall and 2-4 in league play this season but have a 6-2 home record and have won two-straight matches heading into the weekend. The Rebels defeated Auburn, 4-3, before taking down No. 18 Alabama, 4-3.
Tim Sandkaulen is the lone Rebel ranked in ITA's top-125 singles poll at No. 70. On the doubles side, Fabian Fallert/Finn Reynolds are the 14th-ranked pairing in the country.
SERIES HISTORY: The series with Mississippi State dates back to 1937 with Tennessee owning a 35-22 advantage over the Bulldogs all-time. The history between the Vols and Rebels is almost as old with the first match being played in 1940. Ole Miss holds a one match advantage over Tennessee, leading the series 28-27.
