CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 5-ranked Tennessee shut out North Carolina, 2-0, at Williams Field on Wednesday to cap a two-game midweek road trip.
Â
UT was led at the plate by senior Aubrey Leach who went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Three other Lady Vols notched hits with Jenna Holcomb also scoring and Kaili Phillips collecting the lone RBI of the game.
Â
Freshman pitcher Ashley Rogers threw her eighth complete game and fifth shutout of the season to pick up the win. She is now 9-1 on the year and has two saves with a team-leading 97 strikeouts.
Â
The Athens, Tenn., native faced the minimum through the fourth before UNC broke up the no-hitter with a single down the left-field line in the fifth frame.
Â
Tennessee got the scoring started in the top of the first, taking a 1-0 lead. Leach led off with an infield single and moved to third on a passed ball after Cailin Hannon was safe at first on a throwing error. Phillips then hit an RBI groundout to shortstop, scoring Leach.

In the fifth, UNC put their first runner of the game on base but couldn't muster the offense to scratch a run across. Only one Tarheel advanced to second base in the contest while three were left stranded by Tennessee's defense.
Â
Despite moving runners into scoring position in the sixth inning, UT was held scoreless in the final frames for the 2-0 score.
