#7 Lady Vols Take Down Bulldogs, 4-2

FULLERTON, Calif. – The No. 7 Lady Vols beat Fresno State, 4-2, in Game 2 on Thursday to improve to 15-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Judi Garman Classic.
Sophomore outfielder Amanda Ayala once again led Tennessee, going 2-for-3 with one run scored. The trio of Aubrey Leach, Haley Bearden and Kaili Phillips accounted for all of UT's runs batted in.
In the circle, Caylan Arnold and Ashley Rogers split time. Arnold earned the start and the win, allowing two runs on two hits and throwing four strikeouts while Rogers picked up the save. She tossed 3.0 shutout innings and also fanned four batters.
The Lady Vols (15-2) got on the board first in the opening frame, plating three runs on three hits. Ayala singled to right field with one out, setting up Haley Bearden's two-run homer. The Clarksville, Tenn., native bounced the ball off of the left-field wall with two outs before Phillips knocked one beyond center field to give UT a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, Kaitlin Parsons singled to third base and stole second. She then came around to score on Leach's double to center, extending Tennessee's advantage to 4-0.
The teams traded a scoreless third before Fresno State trimmed the Lady Vols' lead by two. The Bulldogs put a runner on base via hit-by-pitch and then plated both runs using Vanessa Hernandez's two-run knock over the left-field wall.
Neither team scored in the fifth, sixth or seventh innings for the 4-2 final.
ON DECK: Tennessee takes on New Mexico in its lone game on Friday at 6:45 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast online by FloSoftball.
