Lady Vols travel to the home the 2019 U.S. Women's Amateur for the Magnolia Invitational
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee women's golf team heads down to West Point, Mississippi to take part in the Magnolia Invitational at Old Waverly Golf Club starting on Sunday.
The field features an 11 teams with the Lady Vols as one of four SEC schools to take part in the third annual event. Tennessee is joined by host Mississippi State, Auburn and LSU in the tournament field.
Old Waverly Golf Club is the home of the 2019 U.S. Women's Amateur as well as the 1999 U.S. Women's Open. This marks the second time in a few months freshman Nicole Whiston will play at Old Waverly as she was one of two Lady Vols to qualify for the U.S. Amateur this summer.
Whiston comes into the tournament leading Tennessee in stroke average with a 70.78 mark. In her nine rounds this season, she has been at or below par while counting towards the team score in all nine rounds.
The San Diego, California native is coming off her best finish of the season after tying for fifth at the Illini Invitational earlier this week. The freshman finished with a season-low score of 211 (-5) as she was helped by a season-low opening round of 68 (-4).
She was joined in the top 20 by sophomore Mikayla Bardwell who shot even par at the Illini Invitational. It marked her second consecutive top-20 finish with Bardwell and Nicole Whiston placing as the two highest Lady Vols in the past two events.
Sophomore Hadley Walts and junior Waverly Whiston slide into the lineup this week. Walts played as an individual earlier this week at the Illini Invitational, tying for 50th in the event.
The first round is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. (ET) at Old Waverly Golf Club with the Lady Vols set to tee off at 8:50 a.m. (ET). Tennessee will be paired with Memphis and Chattanooga.

Mikayla Bardwell
Bardwell has picked up two consecutive top-25 finishes heading into the Magnolia Invitational this weekend. The sophomore ranks second on the team in strokes average (72.67) and rounds of par or better (3).
Nicole Whiston
Through nine rounds this season, Whiston leads the Lady Vols in every statistical category including a team-best 70.78 scoring average. The program record for single-season stroke is 72.19 set by Erica Popson in 2010-11.
Micheala Williams
The 2019 All-SEC selection is in the lineup for the fourth time this season. She is one of just three players to be in the lineup for all four events. After having nine top-25 finishes last season, the senior will be in search of her first top-25 finish this weekend in West Point, Miss.
Hadley Walts
Walts makes her second appearance on the course this season. She closed out her Illini Invitational with her second round of par or better this season with a 72 (E). The round helped her move up 13 spots on the individual leaderboard.
Waverly Whiston
The junior ranks third in stroke average behind her sister and Bardwell with a 73.33 mark. She enters the tournament with two rounds of par or better and is coming off a 32nd place finish at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.
