August 30, 2018 | Soccer
Shae Yanez riding 356-minute streak of scoreless goalkeeping at home
Sophomore defender Paige Franks opened the scoring for the Vols in the 33rd minute off a deflected pass from McKinley Burkett. Striking straight-on from 20 yards out, Franks laced the ball into the left side of the back netting for the first goal of her collegiate career.
Freshman forward Brice McInroy doubled Tennessee's advantage in the 70th minute, double assisted by Amy Thompson and Salera Jordan. Taking the ball inside the left side of the box, McInroy fired a shot inside the right post from 10 yards to put the Vols ahead 2-0 on her first goal as a Vol.
Goalkeeper Shae Yanez posted the third solo shutout of her senior campaign behind a Tennessee back line that limited the Raiders to three shot attempts on the night. The Vols have yet to allow a goal at Regal Stadium this season and have held opponents to just four shots on target at their home venue.
Tennessee recorded its highest shot disparity of the season with a 29-3 advantage over Wright State. In the first four home matches of the season, the Vols are outshooting their opponents 79-20.
The Vols held dominant offensive momentum for a majority of the first half, as UT outshot Wright State 15-1 and recorded seven corner kicks compared to none for the Raiders.
With the win, UT earned its 150th home win in program history. The Vols are 150-55-12 (.719) at their home venue since the program's inception in 1996. Tennessee also is 8-1-1 in its last 10 home matches dating to last season.
UP NEXT: The Vols return to action Sunday. Sept. 2 with a cross-system matchup against the UT Martin Skyhawks. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET at Regal Soccer Stadium.
