KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 25 Tennessee returns to action with a home match against George Mason Sunday night, Aug. 19. Kickoff between the Vols and Patriots is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Admission and parking for all matches at Regal Soccer Stadium is free of charge. Gates open at 6 p.m., and fans should be reminded that UT's clear bag policy will be in effect.
The match will be streamed live on WatchESPN, available online and through the ESPN app. Live stats will be provided via SIDEARM Stats.
Match day promotions include 'Soccer Sundae' – the first 100 kids in the gate will receive a voucher for a scoop of ice cream and access to a toppings bar. UT Fan Experience will also be putting on a free Kids' Corner prior to the match.
LAST TIME OUT: The Vols topped St. John's 2-0 to open the season on Thursday, Aug. 16. Amy Thompson and MA Vignola notched goals for UT in the second half, while goalkeeper Shae Yanez posted a solo shutout with a pair of saves.
Tennessee outshot St. John's 13-7 and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
THOMPSON STRIKES FIRST: Freshman forward Amy Thompson tallied Tennessee's first goal of the season in the 72nd minute of Thursday's match. She is the sixth true freshman in program history to score UT's first goal of the season and the first since 2007 (Tanya Emerson).
SCOUTING GEORGE MASON: The Patriots began their season in Johnson City, Tenn. with a 1-0 victory at ETSU this past Thursday. Graduate transfer Gabriele Rivera netted the game-winner in the 83rd minute with a header off of a corner kick.
GMU was selected third in the A-10 preseason coaches' poll, returning 19 players from last year's roster that finished 9-9-2 overall. Seniors Emily Littell and Rebecca Callison are the team's leading returning goal scorers with four apiece in 2017.
SERIES HISTORY: Tennessee trails George Mason 1-2 in the all-time series, with GMU outscoring UT 4-2 over those matchups.
The Lady Vols dropped back-to-back contests to the Patriots in 1999 and 2000 before earning their first win over George Mason 1-0 last season in Fairfax, Va. Meghan Flynn scored in the 82nd minute off a double assist from McKinley Burkett and Rylie O'Keefe.
Tennessee has been solid against teams in the A-10 Conference, owning a 6-3-0 all-time ledger against those programs.
UP NEXT: The Vols will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. for their first road match of the season at Wake Forest on Thursday, Aug. 23. The match is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
