Collins Matches 100m UT Record at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Senior Shania Collins matched the Tennessee 100-meter dash record and won the 200 meters Friday as Tennessee opened the inaugural National Relay Championships at John McDonnell Field.
Collins won the 100m in 11.10 seconds, matching Cleo Tyson's 2006 record for the Lady Vols. She improved her own personal best by 0.24 seconds.
She followed that by winning the 200m in 22.57 seconds, her personal best and the second-fastest time in UT history.
Tennessee won five events on the day, competing against rival SEC schools and programs from Power 5 conferences.
Senior Nathan Strother earned a victory in the men's 400m in a lifetime best 45.01, the second-fastest time by a Vol. He also recorded a personal-best in the 200m, taking third in 20.76.
The Vols went 2-3-4 in the men's 200m with Kwantreyl McConico taking silver (20.68), Strother third and Mustaqeem Williams fourth (20.77).
Starting off the meet, junior Stamatia Scarvelis earned her second hammer victory of the outdoor season, throwing a mark of 65.82 meters (215-11). She entered the weekend ranked third nationally in the event (68.37m, 224-4).
Freshman Ingar Kiplesund won the open long jump competition with a season-best 7.61m (24-11.75).
UP NEXT: The meet concludes Saturday with a full slate of field events and relays. All individual running events were Friday. Competition starts with men's hammer throw at 11:45 a.m. Eastern (10:45 a.m. Central) and relays at 8 p.m. Eastern (7 p.m. Central).
