KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Matty Moss went 6.2 innings and recorded four strikeouts to lead No. 10/13 Tennessee to a 3-2 win over No. 14/14 LSU in Game 1 of a Saturday doubleheader at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

The Lady Vols (36-8, 7-7 SEC) scored one run in the first inning, one in the third and one more in the sixth to earn their third straight victory. Carley Hoover had a strong showing in the circle for the Tigers (32-9, 7-6 SEC), logging 13 strikeouts on the day in six frames.

UT got on the board early with a run in the first. Aubrey Leach got on base with a leadoff walk, and was able to get to third by stealing a base and advancing on a wild pitch. Leach was then scored on a passed ball as the Lady Vols took a 1-0 lead.

Tennessee would add another run in the bottom of the third. Leach reached on a leadoff walk again, and advanced to second thanks to a Jenna Holcomb single. Leach then went to third on a fielder's choice, and was able to take advantage of another passed ball to score Tennessee's second run of the day.

LSU got a run back in the top of the fifth, Taryn Antoine drove a two-out double down the left field line to score Elyse Thornhill and cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Lady Vols increased their advantage to two once again in the sixth. After Chelsea Seggern reached base on a single, pinch runner Treasury Poindexter came in and stole second. Scarlet McSwain stepped in next and drilled a double to center field that brought Poindexter around and made it 3-1.

The Tigers cut into the UT lead one more time in the seventh, as Becca Schulte scored from third on a Emily Griggs base knock. Moss would shut it down from there, however, as the Lady Vols were able to close out the win and claim the second of a three-game series.

UP NEXT: The Lady Vols and Tigers play the second game of Saturday's doubleheader and the final game of the series at 4:10 p.m. at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
