Coleman Named Sullivan Award Semifinalist
March 16, 2018 | Track & Field
NEW YORK — Tennessee track star Christian Coleman has been named a semifinalist for the AAU James E. Sullivan Award.
Voting for the 28 semifinalists is open to the public this week through March 20 at 11:59 p.m. at aausullivan.org. The finalists will be announced March 21.
The AAU Sullivan Award, now in its 88th year, is presented annually to the top amateur athlete in the United States. While Coleman runs professionally now, he is eligible the award because he competed collegiately during the 2017 spring season.
The award winner will be announced April 17 in New York.
Coleman put together a 2017 college season for the record books, and his career has been building speed from there.
He became the second man in history to sweep the NCAA sprint championships during his junior year for the Vols, winning the 60 and 200 meters indoors and the 100 and 200 outdoors. In December, he was honored with the Bowerman Award, which is given annually to the top track and field athlete.
Since starting his professional career, he has set the world record in the 60m (6.34 seconds) and won both the American and world 60m indoor titles. He earned silver in the 100m at the IAAF outdoor world championships last summer.
