UT Closes NCAA Indoor Championships With Podium Finish In Men’s 4x400m Relay

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Tennessee men's 4x400-meter quartet of Andrew Brown, Calvin Wetzel, Harry Barton and Saad Hinti closed the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships with a third-place finish on Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center. The group combined for a time of 3:03.73, earning UT's best finish in the event since also placing third in 2021.
The men of Tennessee finished with 13 points at the NCAA Indoor Championships, placing tied for 19th in the team standings.
In the final event of the night, Brown ran the leadoff leg in 46.04 seconds before handing off to Wetzel who completed his two-lap portion in 46.20. Barton and Hinti closed the relay with a pair of sub-46 legs, clocking 45.85 and 45.65, respectively. The quartet ranks as the second fastest indoor 4x400-meter relay team in Tennessee history, only trailing the school record mark of 3:02.46 set earlier this season.
In Saturday's field events, Lady Vol sophomore Mya Strahm became the third athlete in program history to earn All-America honors in the women's indoor pole vault, placing 15th in Saturday's final at Arkansas. The 18-year-old from Elmwood, Illinois, cleared the opening bar at 4.26 meters (13-11.75) on her second attempt.
Making his NCAA Championship debut on Saturday, Vol sophomore JL Van Rensburg earned Second Team All-America status in the men's shot put. The Mossel Bay, South Africa, product placed 14th with a mark of 18.86 meters (61-10.5) on his first attempt, becoming the eighth Vol in program history to earn All-America honors in the indoor shot put.
UP NEXT: The Vols and Lady Vols will open outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State University March 26-28.
