Lady Vols Pick Up 5-0 Win Over North Dakota

HONOLULU – Tennessee softball made it 18 straight victories with a 5-0 win over North Dakota to wrap up the first day of the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic on Wednesday.

The No. 4 Lady Vols (26-1)Â had defeated Cleveland State 12-0 in five innings earlier in the day.

Tennessee struck first in the bottom of the first inning. Meghan Gregg reached on a fielding error by the first baseman to score Aubrey Leach, who led off the inning with a single and a stolen base.

The Lady Vols plated two runs in the bottom of the second. Chelsea Seggern hit a two-run single to right center that scored Leach and CJ McClain. McClain had drawn a one-out walk and Leach had reached on an infield single. Â

Tennessee added one run in the bottom of the fifth when Brooke Vines doubled to right center to score Seggern and push UT's lead to 4-0.
The fifth run came in the bottom of the sixth. Leach reached base on a single and scored when Jenna Holcomb reached on a throwing error in the following at-bat.

Leach went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, while Seggern was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Matty Moss (12-1) struck out six in 4.1 innings of work to pick up her 12th win of the season. Caylan Arnold also had six strikeouts in 2.2 innings to pick up her second save.

Up next: Tennessee will face North Dakota (13-12) again Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET before taking on Hawai'i in the night cap at 1 a.m. ET.
