Box Score
CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. -- Senior Meghan Gregg's RBI double in the first inning proved to be enough offense to back a strong effort in the circle by junior pitcher Matty Moss as No. 11 Tennessee took a 1-0 win over No. 2 Oregon on Saturday at the Mary Nutter Classic.
The Lady Vols (15-1) scattered six hits over seven innings as Moss (8-1) struck out six Ducks over six scoreless frames. Sophomore Caylan Arnold struck out two while tossing a perfect seventh inning to earn the save.
Oregon (10-3) suffered its second-straight loss to an SEC team in the Mary Nutter Classic. The Ducks fell to No. 6 Texas A&M on Friday, 3-1.
Gregg recorded her team-best 24th RBI of the season. With one out in the first inning and a 2-2 count, Gregg knocked a double down the left field line to drive in sophomore Jenna Holcomb from first base. Holcomb was a perfect 3-for-3 in the win.
Maggie Balint (3-1) took the loss for Oregon after allowing one run over four innings. Miranda Elish followed with two scoreless relief frames for the Ducks.
Tennessee concludes play in the Mary Nutter Classic against Northwestern on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. PT.
