SOCCER CENTRAL: Louisville (NCAA First Round)

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The 10th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers are set to open NCAA Soccer Tournament action Friday at 5 p.m., hosting a first-round matchup against the Louisville Cardinals at Regal Soccer Stadium.
TICKETS: First-round tickets are on sale through AllVols.com or by calling the Athletic Ticket Office during regular business hours (Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at 865-656-1200. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, students, and senior citizens. Group tickets (15 or more) are also available for $5 each by contacting the Ticket Office.
The first 100 UT students will receive free entry with a valid student ID. The Regal Soccer Stadium ticket booth, located outside the main entrance, will open 90 minutes before game time.
MEN'S BASKETBALL VOUCHERS: Fans that attend Friday's soccer match will have the opportunity to obtain free tickets to the Tennessee men's basketball game vs. Louisiana, set for a 7 p.m. tipoff Friday at Thompson-Boling Arena. Starting at the 60-minute mark of the soccer match, UT Fan Experience will begin distributing vouchers for the men's basketball game upon exit from Regal Soccer Stadium.
FOLLOW LIVE: Friday's match will be broadcast on SEC Network+, available online and through the WatchESPN app. Live stats will also be provided via SIDEARM Stats.
SEEDED VOLS: For the first time in program history, Tennessee (13-2-3, 7-2-1 SEC) has been selected as a No. 2 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. This marks the first time UT has been seeded in the event since being slotted as a No. 4 seed in 2011.
SCOUTING TENNESSEE: The Vols enter the weekend with a 13-2-3 record overall, on track for the highest single-season winning percentage in program history. Tennessee has been ranked in the top 25 of the United Soccer Coaches poll every week this season and currently sits No. 9 in the RPI.
Senior striker Bunny Shaw was recently named the 2018 SEC Offensive Player of the Year to highlight five Vols that earned SEC postseason honors. Shaw, Katie Cousins and Maya Neal each repeated as First Team All-SEC performers, while Erin Gilroy and MA Vignola were both tabbed Second Team All-SEC.
TENNESSEE'S NCAA HISTORY: Tennessee will be making its second-straight NCAA appearance and 12th overall since 2001. UT has an 11-9-3 record in the tournament and has reached the Sweet 16 five times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007). Kylee Rossi is Tennessee's all-time points leader in the NCAA championships, tallying 11 points on four goals and three assists in her career (2005-08).
HOSTING HISTORY: UT has hosted 13 NCAA tournament games, and the Vols are 10-2-1 in Knoxville early-round NCAA games. Last year, Tennessee shut out Murray State 2-0 in the first round at Regal Soccer Stadium with goals from Danielle Marcano and Erin Gilroy.
SERIES VS. LOUISVILLE: Friday's matchup will be Tennessee's second-ever meeting with Louisville and the first in more than 20 years. The programs faced each other in Nashville on Oct. 30, 1998, as the Vols routed the Cardinals 6-0.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS: Louisville (12-6, 6-4 ACC) finished tied for fifth in the ACC standings under 19th-year head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. The Cardinals cracked the United Soccer Coaches top-25 once this season, selected No. 24 on Sept. 4, 2018.
Louisville enters the tournament at No. 56 in the NCAA RPI rankings. The Cardinal roster is headlined by a pair of All-ACC attackers in sophomore midfielder Emina Ekic (First Team) and junior forward Brooklynn Rivers (Third Team). The duo has combined for 14 goals and 11 assists in 2018.
COMMON OPPONENTS: The Vols and Cardinals have faced four common opponents this season in Wright State, Xavier, Kentucky and Wake Forest. Louisville posted and unblemished 4-0 record against those programs, while Tennessee went 3-0-1 with the difference being a 1-1 draw at Wake Forest.
UP NEXT: A Tennessee win over Louisville will guarantee another weekend of NCAA Tournament play at Regal Soccer Stadium. The second and third rounds of the championship are tentatively scheduled for Friday, Nov. 16 and Sunday, Nov. 18.
