October 07, 2018 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 9 Tennessee's four-match conference win streak came to an end Sunday night, as the Volunteers fell to No. 19 Vanderbilt 3-1 at Regal Soccer Stadium. It was the 13th consecutive victory for the league-leading Commodores.
Redshirt-freshman forward Haley Hopkins tallied a bookend brace for Vanderbilt (13-1, 6-0 SEC), good for her 10th and 11th goals of the season. Rookie forward Peyton Cutshall recorded the game-winner for the Commodores with her first career score in the 75th minute.
Trailing 1-0 in the 69th minute, sophomore midfielder McKinley Burkett equalized the match with her first goal of the season. After MA Vignola's shot from range was blocked by a Commodore defender, Burkett flicked the ball from five yards out into back of the net.
Tennessee (10-2-1, 4-2 SEC) held a 13-10 advantage in shot attempts, but the Vols had only three on target compared to seven shots on goal for the Commodores. UT had five corner kicks in the match while limiting Vanderbilt without a corner.
The Vols will look to bounce back Friday night at Georgia, with that matchup set for 7 p.m. in Athens, Ga. For the most up-to-date information on Tennessee soccer, follow @Vol_Soccer on Twitter.
