#17 Vols Battle to Scoreless Draw in Athens
October 12, 2018 | Soccer
ATHENS, Ga. -- No. 17 Tennessee outshot Georgia 24-5 but could not find the back of the net as the Volunteers and Bulldogs battled to a scoreless draw Friday night at Turner Soccer Complex. It was the 10th shutout of the year for UT, marking the seventh time in program history the Vols have logged double-digit clean sheets in a single season.
Tennessee keeper Shae Yanez lowered her goals-against average to a 0.49 with 110 scoreless minutes between the posts at Georgia (4-7-4, 1-4-2 SEC). The UT back line limited UGA to five shot attempts on the night, with just a pair of those on frame.
Senior midfielder Anna Bialczak led all players with five shot attempts. Erin Gilroy and MA Vignola combined for eight shots with five on target.
Tennessee (10-2-2 SEC, 4-2-1 SEC) had its closest chance to score with less than 30 seconds remaining, as Erin Gilroy's shot from point-blank range was wide right. UT defenders Mackenzie Gouner and Wrenne French each had shots late in the match go off of the goalpost and the crossbar.
The Vols return home Thursday, Oct. 18 against LSU for Tennessee's annual 'Pink Game.' Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Regal Soccer Stadium.
