October 25, 2018 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee striker Bunny Shaw came through with the golden goal on her Senior Night as the 12th-ranked Vols came from behind and topped the Missouri Tigers 2-1 in overtime Thursday night at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Â
Shaw's match-winner came in the 96th minute of play, as the Spanish Town, Jamaica native dribbled around a defender and fired a rocket shot from the top of the 18 into the upper left corner. The score was Shaw's sixth game-winning goal of the season, moving her career total to 13 which ranks third in program history.
Â
With UT trailing 1-0 late in the 72nd minute, redshirt-junior Katie Cousins equalized on a penalty kick after Abbey Burdette took a foul inside the box. It was the third goal of the season for Cousins and the second penalty conversion for the All-American midfielder from Forest, Va.
Missouri (6-10-2, 3-6-1 SEC) got on the board first, as redshirt-junior forward Bethany Coons found the back of the net in the 33rd minute off an assist from the team's leading scorer Sarah Luebbert. The shot came from 17 yards inside the right post and was Coons' fourth shot-on-goal of the half.
Tennessee (13-2-2, 7-2-1 SEC) held a dominant 26-12 edge in shots, outshooting Mizzou 16-5 over the final 51 minutes. The Vols had a season-high 12 shots-on-goal and also had the stifling advantage in corner kicks, 10-2.
With the win and other results around the league Thursday, Tennessee has locked up the No. 2 seed in next week's SEC Tournament. The runner-up finish in conference play is the highest for the Vols since claiming the regular season crown in 2005.
