Walton, Jones Earns Wins in ITA All-American Qualifying

TULSA, Okla. -- Aussie Vols Adam Walton and Scott Jones each advanced to the second round of qualifying singles to highlight Tennessee's performances Monday at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Walton (Home Hill, Australia) - the 82nd-ranked player in the country - took down Carles Sarrio of SMU in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Jones (Perth, Australia) topped Columbia's Austen Huang in a three-set battle, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Tennessee's co-captain duo of Preston Touliatos/Timo Stodder earned a win in their debut as a doubles pairing, dispatching Jan Kirchhoff/Arnaud Restifo (San Diego State) 6-3, 7-5. The Tennessee seniors were eliminated in the second round of doubles play, narrowly falling to Jimmy Bendeck/Sven Lah (Baylor) in a third tiebreaker set with a final score of 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Walton and Jones continue singles qualifying Tuesday, vying for a spot in the main draw of the ITA All-American Championships. Stodder awaits main draw play (Oct. 4-8) after earning a spot in the tournament with his No. 6 preseason national rankings in singles.
