KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee men's tennis team improved its season-opening record to 4-0 after a doubleheader sweep Monday at Goodfriend Tennis Center.

The Vols defeated Tennessee Tech 6-1 in the morning match -- headlined by a top-30 singles win by junior Timo Stodder -- and earned a 6-1 victory over Belmont in the afternoon.

Stodder clinched the Tennessee Tech match at 4-0 when he defeated No. 28 Eduardo Mena 6-3, 7-5 at the top of the lineup, his fifth win against a nationally ranked opponent this season..

Redshirt junior Preston Touliatos and freshman Adam Walton both went 8-0 over the opening weekend between singles and doubles. They teamed up to go 4-0 at the top of the doubles lineup, and the Vol duo did not drop a set in singles either. Touliatos posted a 4-0 record on court 2; Walton did the same on court 4.

Four of six Vols posted a 4-0 singles record opening weekend. Stodder was unbeaten at No. 1, and sophomore Luca Wiedenmann did not drop a set en route to winning all his matches on courts 5 and 6.

NOTES: Timo Stodder now has 16 career wins against nationally ranked opponents, including five this season. He leads the team with 16 overall wins this year ... Walton is a team-leading 12-3 in doubles this season; he and Touliatos are 8-1 together, counting fall results.

"We're focused on the process right now. The net result of what we're trying to gain has been accomplished. We're focused on the process and at the end of the day, we're 4-0. We're just trying to keep getting better and that's the message that I'll push until we're in the NCAA tournament and eliminated or the season's over.

"We're working on how to carry ourselves out there. There's a certain way winners carry themselves. Also, doubles is constantly trying to improve. We need to get the lineup going in the right direction. We still have two very experienced players who haven't participated. Hopefully one will be back soon and we'll get the other involved in the lineup as well."
