Need to Know
The Vols have won five straight after dispatching Lipscomb, 7-1, on Tuesday night in Nashville and going a perfect 4-0 last week. UT defeated Jacksonville last Tuesday before sweeping Mississippi State over the weekend. The Big Orange scored six-plus runs in all three games and 23 total for the weekend against the Bulldogs, who entered the series with the fourth best team ERA in the country at 1.33.
Erin Gabriel went 2-0 on the week and threw her second-career perfect game in Tuesday's 10-0 run-rule victory over Jacksonville. The senior is tied for fourth in the SEC with 13 wins and also ranks fourth in the league with 114 strikeouts.
Tennessee has been one of the top offensive teams in the SEC so far this season. The Vols rank among the top five in the conference in a handful of offensive categories, including RBIs, runs, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, doubles, triples, walks, sacrifice flies and stolen bases.
Meghan Gregg and Brooke Vines have led the offense during the current five-game win streak. Gregg has posted at least one hit and one RBI in each of the past five games, including a four-RBI performance in Tuesday's win at Lipscomb. Vines has been just as impressive, recording hits and RBIs in four straight games.
Opponent Breakdown
Missouri
The Tigers enter the weekend ranked No. 15 in both national polls and seventh in the SEC standings. They won the series opener at No. 6 Alabama last weekend before dropping the final two games of the series to fall to 3-3 in conference play. Missouri ranks second in the SEC with a .350 team batting average and has four players batting .400 or higher, led by redshirt senior Sami Fagan who is hitting at a .465 clip.
The Tigers rely primarily on two pitchers, freshman Danielle Baumgartner, who leads the staff with a 1.92 ERA, and sophomore Paige Lowery, who leads the team with 13 wins and 69 strikeouts.
All-Time Series
Tennessee is 3-4 all-time against Missouri with all seven meetings coming since the Tigers joined the SEC in 2013. The Vols took the season series last year with two victories in Knoxville. UT won the series opener 12-4 in six innings and took the rubber match, 10-7, after dropping the middle game of the series, 9-8. This will be just the second-ever trip for Tennessee to Columbia.
