#4 Tennessee Drops a 2-1 Decision to Ole Miss
March 27, 2026 | Softball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Despite a strong pitching performance from junior Sage Mardjetko, the fourth-ranked Lady Vols dropped a 2-1 decision to Ole Miss Friday night at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
Tennessee (29-4, 6-4 SEC) got a strong outing from Mardjetko in the circle as she tossed a complete game, allowing two runs – one earned – on five hits. The righty walked one with 12 strikeouts. Mardjetko suffered the loss and is now 7-1 on the year.
Ole Miss (22-14, 1-9 SEC) struck quickly in the first inning, as Kennedy Bunker led off with a solo home run to right field to give the Rebels an early 1-0 lead.
Tennessee answered in the third without recording a hit. Sophia Knight reached on a fielder's choice before advancing to second on a passed ball. Ella Dodge, Gabby Leach and Emma Clarke then drew three consecutive walks to push Knight home.
Both teams were held in check through the middle innings, with Mardjetko keeping Ole Miss off the board after the first.
Ole Miss regained the lead in the sixth, following a single and a Tennessee throwing error. The go-ahead run then scored on a wild pitch, giving the Rebels a 2-1 advantage.
Tennessee threatened late, putting a runner in scoring position in the seventh, but could not capitalize as Ole Miss held on for the one-run victory.
The Lady Vols were limited to three hits on the night, with Knight and Clarke accounting for two of them.
