SOFTBALL CENTRAL: Tennessee vs. Jacksonville
March 21, 2016 | Softball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 16 Tennessee will look to bounce back from a tough weekend in Gainesville when they host Jacksonville on Tuesday evening at 5 p.m.
Tuesday’s contest against the Dolphins will be the fifth straight game for the Volunteers against a team from the state of Florida after a four-game road trip to the Sunshine State last week.
Need to Know
The Vols (21-8, 3-3 SEC) opened last week with a 9-4 win over North Florida on Wednesday but were swept by No. 1 Florida over the weekend.
Megan Geer led UT with four hits and three RBIs last week and Gretchen Aucoin led the team with a .429 batting average. Geer currently leads the team with a .378 batting average, 31 runs and 17 stolen bases this season. Despite being swept by the top-ranked Gators, Tennessee’s pitching staff fared well over the weekend, holding UF to six hits or fewer in all three games.
After being on the road for an entire week, the Vols should receive a nice boost with four home games this week. The Big Orange are a perfect 9-0 in Knoxville this season and have outscored opponents 82-12 at the friendly confines of Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.
Opponent Breakdown
Jacksonville
The Dolphins come into Tuesday’s matchup at 16-16 overall after dropping two of three against Kennesaw State last weekend to open Atlantic Sun conference play. Jacksonville is led by senior pitcher/outfielder Victoria Brown, who ranks first on the team with a .330 batting average, 23 runs and 24 RBIs. She is also the team’s top pitcher with a 10-9 record, a 2.89 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 121.0 innings pitched.
All-Time Series
Tennessee and Jacksonville have only met twice with the Vols sweeping a doubleheader on Feb. 8, 2003 in St. Augustine, Fla. UT run-ruled the Dolphins, 10-2, in Game 1 and took Game 2 by a score of 6-1.
