Lady Vols Surge Past Utes, 9-1 (5)

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Lexi Overstreet and Megan Geer had three RBIs each and No. 8 Tennessee surged past Utah, 9-1, in five innings of Knoxville Regional action on Saturday at Lee Stadium.
The Lady Vols (44-14) will play in the Regional final (Game 6) on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET for a ticket to the NCAA Super Regionals. They will play the winner of Saturday night's Game 5, which features Utah (35-18) against the winner of Game 4 (Virginia Tech vs. Longwood). If necessary, Game 7 will be played on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
Rainey Gaffin earned the pitching start and tallied three strikeouts with just one unearned run allowed. Gaffin earned the win to improve to 15-3. Cheyenne Tarango entered the game in the top of the fourth and threw the final 1.2 frames without allowing a run.
Tennessee scored nine runs on 10 hits. The offensive performance was highlighted by a two-run home run by Overstreet (2-for-2) and her game-ending RBI double in the fifth. Shaliyah Geathers was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Meghan Gregg was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Tennessee's Scarlet McSwain scored its first run in the bottom of the second after back-to-back walks by Utah's Katie Donovan.
In the bottom of the third, Overstreet added to the UT lead, hitting a two-run blast over the right field fence with one out. She brought in Annie Aldrete who had singled to left just before.
Utah scored its first run in the top of the fourth with an RBI double down the left field line by Anissa Urtez.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Gregg hit a two-RBI double to left field to bring home Geathers and Gaffin. Overstreet ended the game for the Lady Vols with an RBI double to center field to score Gregg, run-ruling the Utes.
