KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Megan Geer hit a three-run homer and Meghan Gregg added a solo blast as No. 11 Tennessee defeated Eastern Kentucky, 7-2, in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium.

Tennessee (28-9) scored two runs in the second inning, four in the third and one in the fourth. Eastern Kentucky (15-21) plated two runs in the fourth.

Geer finished 1-for-2 with the three-run blast, a walk and two runs. Meghan Gregg and Gretchen Aucoin each went 2-for-4.

Erin Gabriel (12-4) earned the win after striking out six and allowing two runs over 5.1 innings. Rainey Gaffin fanned four over 1.2 shutout relief frames.

Tennessee took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Gaffin clubbed a two-run double to left field with one out.

The Lady Vols lead grew to 6-0 after a four-run third inning. With two outs, Geer crushed a 1-0 pitch over the wall in left field for a three-run homer and her ninth blast of the season. Three batters later, Shaliyah Geathers reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, scoring Taylor Koenig on the play.

Eastern Kentucky got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth, scoring two runs. With two on and one out, Katie Tackett hit a two-run single to left field and advanced to second on the throw.

Gregg opened the bottom of the fourth with a home run down the right field line to push UT's lead to 7-2. Eastern Kentucky changed pitchers heading into the inning with Hayley Flynn entering in relief. Gregg hit a towering shot down the right field line for her eighth homer of the season.
