Women's Tennis Falls to #39 Auburn 4-0

AUBURN, Ala. -- The Tennessee Lady Vols fell to 8-7 on the season, following a 4-0 shutout by the No. 39 Auburn Tigers on Friday at Yarbrough Tennis Center.
In their first SEC road match of the season, the Volunteers failed to gain any momentum against their top-40 ranked opponent.
In doubles, the sophomore duo of Eve Repic and Laurence Guevremont dropped their match 8-5 to the team of Reka Muller and Jen Pfeifler. Junior Tiffany Tavares and sophomore Victoria Olivarez lost a heartbreaking match after being up 7-2 but falling 8-7 (3) to Paula de Man and Michala Kucharova, giving the Tigers the early 1-0 advantage.
Auburn quickly added more pressure and momentum as Tennessee was forced to forfeit court 6 due to a lack of available players, taking a 2-0 lead and proving to be the difference.
Repic and fellow sophomore Ashlee Boles both dropped quick matches to their opponents, clinching the match for Auburn at 4-0. Olivarez and senior Joanna Henderson both had forced third sets in their matches after losing the first and Guevremont being a game away from doing the same, but the match was called once it had been clinched.
The quick lead for the Tigers was too much for the Lady Vols to overcome, putting them in a very difficult situation for a comeback.
Tennessee will play again on Sunday as they face No. 9 Alabama on the road at Alabama Tennis Stadium at 2 p.m.
