LADY VOLS OPEN ITA REGIONAL TOURNAMENT ON A WINNING NOTE

The Tennessee Lady Vol tandem of junior Ashley Robards and sophomore Sabita Maharaj opened the Omni Hotel Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Regional Championships with a doubles victory in the Round of 64 on Thursday.
The UT duo posted an 8-3 win over Carmen Linder and Pascale Veraverbeke of Campbell to advance to the Round of 32. In their next match, Robards and Maharaj will face Wake Forest's Alex Hirsch and Danielle Schwartz on Friday at 4 p.m.
In addition to their doubles match on Friday, Robards and Maharaj, along with Lady Vol junior Majen Immink, will begin singles play as well. Robards, seeded fourth in the event, will take on Parker Goyer of Duke at 9 a.m. in the Round of 64. Maharaj, the tourney's eighth seed, will face Wake Forest's Blakely Offutt at 11 a.m. Immink, meanwhile, will battle Ana Novaes of Winthrop at 1 p.m. If she advances, Immink will next face a tough challenge against the two seed, No. 88 Danela Alvarez of Clemson in the Round of 32.
Rounding out the seeded players in the singles draw are top seed No. 31 Mojzis, three seed No. 53 Karin Coetzee of Wake Forest, five seed Maria Brito of Clemson, six seed Jenny Zika of Duke, seven seed No. 37 Manon Druse of MTSU, nine seed Caitlin Collins of UNC, #10 seed No. 43 Saras Arasu of Duke, #11 seed No. 45 Julie Smith of Duke, #12 seed No. 99 Cline, #13 seed Jennifer Klaschka of MTSU and #14 seed No. 81 Katie Martzolf of Wake Forest.
Following their return from the tournament, the Lady Vol tennis squad's next competition will come at the SEC Coaches Tournament in Peachtree City, Ga., over Nov. 6-9.
