OJEDA ADVANCES TO SEMIS OF THE SOUTHEAST REGION CHAMPIONSHIPS

University of Tennessee senior Lady Volunteer tennis player Alison Ojeda advanced to the semifinals of the Omni Hotels Southeast Region Championships on Sunday on the campus of Wake Forest University. Ojeda will play in the semis on Monday and if she should win the finals immediately following.
In the round of 16, Ojeda defeated Duke's Ioana Plesu, 6-3, 6-7 (6), 7-5. Junior Vilmarie Castellvi also advanced with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 triumph over North Carolina's Kate Pinchbeck. Julie DeRoo, representing Duke, dealt senior Agnes Wiski a 6-3, 6-0 setback and Wake Forest's Maren Haus eliminated Majen Immink by the score of 6-2 and 6-2.
In the quarterfinals, Ojeda avenged Immink's loss with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Maren. Castellvi, meanwhile, suffered a 6-0, 7-6 (5) setback at the racquet of Maren's teammate Janet Bergman. In doubles play, Crystal Cleveland and Ojeda fell in the semifinals to Bergman and Bea Bielik in a close 9-8 (5) decision.
