Scott Earns SEC Player of the Week Honors
April 14, 2026 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Katrina Scott of the University of Tennessee women's tennis team has been named SEC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
"We are thrilled for our program and Katrina for being named SEC Player of the Week," Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said. "She's a great player and an amazing person who has whole heartedly embraced our program! There's a lot more to come."
The selection follows a flawless weekend for Scott, who collected two straight-sets singles wins over ranked opponents. She also won both of her doubles matches, with each sealing the opening point. Her efforts led Tennessee to two victories on the final weekend of the regular season.
In Thursday's win over Ole Miss, then-No. 29 Scott was the first to finish her singles match, downing the Rebels' No. 18 Emily Welker in dominant 6-0, 6-2 fashion. Despite Welker landing 73 percent of her first serves, Scott managed to win over half of her return points (55 percent). She also carded a 6-3 doubles [remove] triumph on court three alongside Maeve Thornton to win the doubles point for Tennessee.
On Saturday, she not only clinched the doubles point yet again with a 6-3 set on court three, but also sealed the 4-3 win over No. 12 LSU via a 7-6 (6), 6-1 singles victory over No. 26 Cadence Brace.
The meeting between Brace and Scott, per WTA, was their third matchup of the last 12 months, with both previous matches occurring on the professional circuit. Brace won both previous decisions. Per UTR, Brace is the top-rated collegiate player in the nation (11.52 UTR) and Scott ranks as the sixth-highest (11.37 UTR).
The tiebreaker first set—which itself lasted longer than the complete singles matches on courts three and five—initially appeared to be a one-sided affair, as Scott pounced to a 5-1 lead. Her opponent would then go on to win five straight games, taking a 6-5 lead. Scott held serve to force a tiebreak game, in which she ultimately earned the set lead. Brace could not muster a comeback and Scott ran away in a 6-1 second set, icing the 4-3 dual win.
With the win, Tennessee vaulted LSU for the No. 8 seed in the SEC Tournament, earning a bye and an additional day of rest.
Following her impressive weekend, Scott improved to the No. 10 spot on ITA's singles rankings in the April 14 update. She is the first Lady Vol to achieve a top-10 singles ranking this season. LVFL Elza Tomase finished the 2024-25 season as the No. 4 singles player in the country.
Scott and No. 16 Tennessee begin the 2026 postseason Thursday and will face either No. 16-seeded Missouri or ninth-seeded LSU at 4 p.m. ET in the second round of the SEC Tournament.
