Vols Split Doubleheader Against Bruins, Sooners
March 01, 2026 | Men's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee men's tennis split a doubleheader on Sunday at Barksdale Stadium, losing to Oklahoma, 4-1, in the first match and besting Belmont in the second contest, 6-1.
MATCH 1: Tennessee 1, Oklahoma 4
The Volunteers struggled to find a spark in the first match of the day against Oklahoma.
The contest started out with the two teams trading sets back and forth. Court three was the closest match, with UT's duo of Woodson McMillin and Jan Kobierski splitting sets with
Oscar Lacides and Asahi Harazaki from Oklahoma. OU took a lead on court one and two and never looked back, sweeping the doubles point to start off up one.
Court three's match went unfinished at 4-3.
The Sooners added to their lead after No. 79 Oscar Lacides bested Jose Garcia, 6-2, 6-2. UT bounced back with a win on court five from Boruch Skierkier, as he took down No. 89 Asahi Harazaki, 6-1, 6-1. Oklahoma closed out the match by picking up a win on court one, followed by a triumph on court four to capture a 4-1 victory.
MATCH 2: Tennessee 6, Belmont 1
Tennessee bounced back in the second match of the day with a strong showing in singles play, sweeping the Bruins on courts one through six.
Tennessee switched up their doubles lineups from the first match and got glimpses of great performances from all of the pairings. UT's tandem of Dragos Cazacu and Alejandro Moreno jumped out to an early lead of 2-1 on Sabi Roi and Stefan Vedovelli. Belmont was able to find an answer, capturing the doubles point with triumphs on court one and two.
The Big Orange found an answer in singles, with five out of the six singles courts succeeding in two sets. Piotr Siekanowicz got the Vols on the board first, defeating Morgan Woodson on court four, 6-2, 6-0. The Volunteers gained the lead with Shion Itsusaki's two-set sweep over Eli Mizerski, 6-1, 6-1. Jan Kobierski prevailed over Sabi Roi, 6-2, 6-2, to grow the Big Orange lead to two. Ethan Muza collected the clincher for the Vols, overcoming Bautista Durrels Rojo, 6-0, 6-3.
Two matches were played out after the Vols clinched, resulting in Dragos Cazacu winning on court two and Jose Garcia sliding past Belmont's number one player, Charlie Robin.
SINGLES SWEEP
The Vols have shown they can make a comeback, sweeping singles twice in the past two non-conference matches after losing the doubles point. The sweep Sunday night was the fourth time this season the Big Orange have not lost on a singles court in 2025-26, shutting out Bellarmine, EKU, Chattanooga and Belmont.
IN-STATE TAKE OVER
Tennessee has now gone 4-1 in its contests versus in-state foes, beating ETSU twice in the dual-match opener and matching that performance with wins over Chattanooga and Belmont. The Big Orange will look to add to that positive record with its competition against Tennessee State on March 22.
UP NEXT
UT will go back on the road for two more conference contests against Mississippi State on March 6 at 4 p.m. ET at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville and at LSU on March 8 at 1 p.m. ET at the LSU Tennis Complex in Baton Rouge.
