Tennessee Falls To #11 Texas A&M, 4-1
January 23, 2026 | Men's Tennis
RALEIGH, North Carolina – The Tennessee men's tennis team came up short versus No. 11 Texas A&M, falling 4-1 in the opening round of the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Friday night at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
The Vols opened the doubles competition by taking court one in the first match of the evening to finish. The tandem of Piotr Siekanowicz and Dragos Cazacu controlled the match the whole way by going up 4-1and eventually winning, 6-3. The tandem is now on a two-match winning streak.
The Aggies, though, fought back with a 7-5 win on court two by the No. 29 duo of Alex Frusina and Kholo Montsi, leaving the doubles point to rely on the outcome on court three. The match-up at No 3 was the most exciting battle of the doubles competition. It was a back-and-forth affair until it eventually reached a tiebreaker set. The tiebreaker was no different, with the tandems trading service points before the Aggies took a break point to end it, 7-6 (10-8), and capture the doubles point.
Tennessee started singles out in strong fashion as well, taking the first set on three courts and forcing the fourth into a tiebreaker set. That momentum provided the Big Orange a glimmer of hope to start a comeback. Jan Kobierski ran with that hope to take court four and put the Vols on the board with a three-set win.
Texas A&M, however, was able to gather singles victories on court one, three and two to end the match.
CAZACU AND SIEKANOWICZ ARE FINDING THEIR FOOTING
The duo of Dragos Cazacu and Piotr Siekanowicz are establishing chemistry and learning to play together after never teaming up until the dual season. The tandem has claimed two victories at No. 1 doubles over teams from No. 3 TCU and No. 11 Texas A&M.
UP NEXT
UT will play in the consolation match against No. 9 NC State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET at J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
