Suarez, Yli-Piipari to compete in ITA National Summer Championships

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Two Lady Vols, Vanesa Suarez and Saray Yli-Piipari, are slated to compete in the ITA National Summer Championships this weekend, August 9-12, hosted at the Leftwich Tennis Center at the University of Memphis.

The tournament, a culmination of the ITA Summer Series, will award two wild card bids to the ITA All-American Championships (Sept. 20-28) in Cary, N.C. The All-American Championships would present a chance to earn one of ten available spots in the NCAA Championships singles draw (Nov. 18-23) in Orlando, Fla.

The National Summer Championships winner will receive a main draw wild card at the All-American Championships, while the other finalist will receive a wild card bid for the qualifying draw.

Along with the ITA event draws, the National Summer Championships also boasts a prize pool that includes UTSA Pro Circuit wild cards among other rewards.

The Competitors
Suarez finished last season with a 22-11 singles record, including an 11-7 record in dual play. She finished 2-2 against nationally ranked opponents. She finished her season on a three-match winning streak, including wins in the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.

She finished the 2024 Fall slate as the No. 54-ranked singles player in Division, I per ITA, after an exceptional showing that included five-straight singles wins to take the Milwaukee Tennis Classic singles title.

Yli-Piipari completed a successful freshman campaign in 2024-25, going 17-9 in singles matches and 18-9 in doubles sets. She blossomed alongside Elza Tomase in doubles, going 5-1 as a tandem, including a 6-4 set win over No. 2 Reed/Smetannikov of Texas A&M in the NCAA Quarterfinal round.

Suarez and Yli-Piipari are the No. 1 and No. 3 ranked players in the field, respectively. Both players have received a bye into the round of 16, to begin play on Sunday. Round of 16 matches will begin at 9:00 a.m. ET.
